SHIHAN HIGAONNA MORIO

Higaonna Morio was born in Naha , Okinawa , on 25th December 1938.
His first task of Karate was watching his father practising in the house. His father, a policeman and teacher of the Shorin Ryu, allowed him to watch but did not teach him until he was older .In 1958, the great Goju Master, Miyagi passed away and Eiichi Miyasato took over the class , inviting Higaonna , now 17, to train with him. Having earned his Sandan in 1959, Higaonna took the advice of his Sempai Shimabukaro and left Okinawa for Japan, entered Taku Shoko University in 1960 and graduated with a degree in commercial import and export.
" Karate is my life. It is my subject of study. It is like a cloud with nothing substantial to grab hold of. I challenge karate by practising everyday and I attempt to grasp something from it , though in the most part I am not able to come away with very much . Karate is very difficult , but its purpose is to train the mind as well as the body . I started Karate because I was weak. If I had been strong, I'd probably be doing some other kind of work. Karate is something you can do for your whole life and that is what I am trying to do by practising every morning. "
